While visiting Michelle Malkin’s site today I was greeted with the sad news (for me) that Tom Ridge won’t be taking down Arlen Spector in the next senatorial races in Pennsylvania. That leaves Pat Toomey, as of now, to attempt the deed.

I’m fully aware that many Republicans aren’t fans of Tom Ridge. He’s pro-abortion, for instance, and has other liberal tendencies, but one of the greatest threats to our way of life and liberty right now is the stranglehold that Democrats, who will soon have a filibuster-proof 60 seats, have in the Senate. Any Republican victory, any Republican takeover of a seat held by a Democrat, would do wonders for this country, even if the Republican in question is a little more liberal than most conservatives would like. And in a state like Pennsylvania, which is clearly now a left-leaning state (Spector likely picked up votes with his move to the Demwit Party), a left-leaning Republican with huge name recognition might just be the ticket to victory. Unfortunately, it is not to be.
And so that leaves us with Pat Toomey, who according to a Quinnipiac Poll, has less initial appeal to PA voters than Ridge. It’s going to be a tough ride, and one of the most despicable Republicans to inhabit the Senate in a long time is likely to win in a walk. After all, this is the same state that sent John Murtha back after he called his constituents a bunch of redneck racists.
On the bright side, I’ll get to continue using the Phil Spector picture for awhile.
