Obama’s Lengthening Trail of Broken Promises

phenomenalactsofcontortionc_es_250pxwYou may not know where Barack is going, but you sure know where he’s been – - simply follow the ever-lengthening trail of broken promises. The promise-versus-performance gap grows wider every day. Don’t say we didn’t warn you, Mr. and Mrs. America, that this guy is a shameless opportunist who says whatever it takes to get elected, then does what he damned well pleases.

Below are some samples — feel free to suggest more! And below the samples: some videotaped evidence of promises being made.

PROMISE: “No lobbyists in my administration.”

PERFORMANCE: Where’d those %&@#% lobbyists come from? Oh . . . they were appointed by Obama to positions in his administration.

PROMISE: No more earmarks! No more pork-barrel projects! No more secrecy! Every pork-barrel project will be put on-line for every American to see! (Wild cheering)

PERFORMANCE: Record-breaking earmarks! Bald-faced pork-barrel projects! “Blind” bills that no one had had the chance to read before passage! And . . . uh . . . can’t seem to find that pork-barrel Web site on line . . . .

PROMISE: Obama pledged on the campaign trail that “when there is a bill that ends up on my desk as president, you the public will have five days to look online and find out what’s in it before I sign it, so that you know what your government’s doing.”

PERFORMANCE: Bills are routinely signed before the five-day period is up, including the $787,000,000,000.00 Stimulus bill.  Oopsie — we didn’t read the fine print — according to the campaign Web site, the promise was, “Obama will not sign any non-emergency bill without giving the American public an opportunity to review and comment on the White House website for five days.” Gosh, we forgot to ask for a definition of “non-emergency.” It turns out that everything’s an emergency! For a list of bills not posted or signed before 5 days, go here.

PROMISE: Transparency in government. “The way to make a government responsible is to hold it accountable, and the way to make government responsible is to make it transparent so that the American people can know exactly what decisions are being made, how they’re being made, and whether their interests are being well-served.”

PERFORMANCE: Two major pieces of legislation, the Stimulus Bill and the Waxman-Markey Cap-and-Trade bill, have been pushed through floor votes so fast that no one who voted for them had read them.  The Stimulus was signed immediately, such that it became law before the American people had a reasonable chance to read it.  Not only is Obama not making any effort to get Congress to slow down and act like a deliberative body — he and his aides are actively helping to get these bills rushed through.

PROMISE: A tax cut for everyone making less than $200,000.00 per year.

PERFORMANCE: ROFLMAO! Define “cut.”

PROMISE: “If you are a family making less than $250,000.00 per year, you taxes will not go up.”

PERFORMANCE: There are already some new taxes and more are on the way.

PROMISE: No taxes on employer-provided health care benefits.

PERFORMANCE: This one hasn’t been broken yet. It’s on the table, however, and you can bet that Obama’s health care “legacy” is more important.

  1. Brad says:

Obama continues to break his campaign promises. What about his promise to create five million new jobs. All I here about in the news is more layoffs. I think since he has been in office, the country has lost something like five million jobs. So instead of creating them, he has watched them go away.

Maybe he just slipped during those speaches. Maybe he meant to say he was going to destroy five million new jobs.

    What a joke.

:p 8) =( :8 ;) :(( :o: :[ :) :D :-| :-[) :bloody:  :choler:  :oups: :aie: :beurk:
