Copenhagen — Mis-Leading By Example

IPCC Chairman Rajendra "I can fly, you must walk" Pachauri

IPCC Chairman Rajendra "I can fly, you must walk" Pachauri

It’s easy to find Copenhagen these days — all you need to do is follow the carbon footprints.  Superimposed on a map of the world, the carbon footprints of the participants in the Intergovermental Panel on Climate Change gathering would look as if herds of yetis had descended on Denmark. This is a 15,000-plus person convention led by jet-set pseudo-environmentalists who glory in “living large” while making plans on how to force the rest of us to cut back on our lifestyles.

Like Al Gore, his co-Nobel Peace Prize “winner,” IPCC Chairman Rajendra Pachauri is a hypocrite of the first order.  Pachauri jets about the globe at the rate of some 284,000 air miles per year, making speeches and giving interviews in which he recommends the curtailment of such things as air travel and ice water. See, e.g., Carbon must be sucked from air, says IPCC chief Rajendra Pachauri; Let The Peasants Walk; IPCC’s Pachauri should shut his mouth. Although he has been described as a “climate expert,” a “leading scientist” and “the world’s leading climate scientist,” Pachauri — like Gore — is a politician with no educational background in climatology or meteorology. See Here comes Nanny Pachauri.  And also like Gore, Pachauri is dismissive of the Climategate scandal.  See Copenhagen diary.

So neither Pachauri nor Gore walks the walk; they talk the talk, making plans to impose their socioeconomic experiments on the peasants.  That’s us.

Just for grins, I calculated my own “carbon footprint” to see how I compare with the likes of Pachauri and Gore.  There are a number of sites (see below) with carbon-footprint calculators.  The results vary by site, but I and my household were invariably substantially below the U.S. average, and WAY below Gore and Pachauri.  For the record, I came out at 7 to 9 tons of carbon per annum; the average American uses about 20 tons per year, while folks like Pachauri and Gore run up 80 to 100 tons annually.

Where I live, folks want to see leadership by example.  The jet-set pseudo-environmentalists in Copenhagen prefer to lead by rhetoric and often-misleading verbiage. I’ll bet both of my paddle-powered canoes against Al Gore’s houseboat that what comes out of Copenhagen is verbiage recommending command-and-control measures to make the common folk “do right.”

Guess what… it’s frickin cold! Rajendra needs to be thrown out of an airplane without a parachute!

    • If we listen to the main stream, therefore controlled media, its man made climate change designed to create a world wide carbon tax. A tax that will allow
“The Family” to charge a tax on farts.

However, if we read the research done by ones such as David Wilcock and others, we realize the entire universe is heating up because of a photon belt that the universe passes through every 25.750 thousand years (approx)

Will this photon belt bring with it a Golden Age, an informational super highway on steroids?

This has been controlled by big business right from the start. The CRU has been a shill for Big Oil and Big Nuclear the whole time.

The Climate Research Unit (CRU) in the UK was set up in 1971 with funding from Shell and BP as is described in the book: “The history of the University of East Anglia, Norwich; Page 285)” By Michael Sanderson. The CRU was still being funded in 2008 by Shell, BP, the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate and UK Nirex LTD (the nuclear waste people in the UK)

This is important to know, for two reasons.
Firstly, the key institution providing support for Global Warming theories and the basis for the IPCC findings receives funding from “Big Oil” and the nuclear power industry.

Secondly, the research from the institution which is perceived to be independent publicly funded research, is actually beholden to soft money, CRU is in fact a business.

The funders of the CRU are on the bottom of this page from their website:

Perhaps the results were the ones the sponsors desired.
Anyone that thought this was about the enviroment has been played.

They can not hide the medieval warming period.
It was much, much warmer during the medieval warming period than it is today.

There are Vikings that were buried (interred) in the permafrost in Greenland.
The permafrost was not disturbed since it froze.
It was not frozen when they were buried.
I would call that warmer then today, a lot warmer.

They were interred hundreds of years before the Industrial Revolution. The CRU tried to hide this.

The ironic thing is that this evidence of the medieval warming period is in a museum in Copenhagen.

Note for realclimate/CRU people that say the medieval warming period is based on anecdotal evidence. An artifact is something you can hold in you hand, like say, a skeleton that you chipped out of the permafrost. An anecdote is some kind of hearsay that only exists in the minds of people, like say, human induced global warming.

Note for realclimate/CRU people that say the medieval warming period was a local event. Do you know how absurd that sounds, Greenland alone really hot for 300 years, all on it’s own. Did they ban the jet stream or the gulfstream or did space aliens use a really big magnifying glass on Greenland. 300 years, seriously, a local event?

Also, the medieval warming period was global.

    Global Warming!-IS- Human/ Industrial Waste!
The best indisputable SCIENCE example that should be the #1 item on the Copenhagen Agenda would be the toxic waste dump, the size of Texas, 900 miles off of the United States and Canadian West Coast.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GreatPacificGarbagePatch
That is a Big SCIENCE problem with no dedicated U.S SCIENCE and INNOVATION DEPARTMENT to address the issue. The U.S (or Canada) has not even sent out a SCIENCE research vessel to evaluate this ecological disaster; neither country wants to take the responsibility for the industrial/human pollution or even acknowledge its existence.
No Profit-No Action!-No SCIENCE! Will the World Trade Organization and the New Industrial World Order address the issue? Where is their World Department of SCIENCE?
Can the problem be solved with SCIENCE? Probably so, Americans are very ingenious primarily because we were raised with the compliments of Freedom and Democracy and are free thinking individuals. We could probably figure a way to clean up the mess and possibly make a profit doing so.
We can do nothing until we have a DEPARTMENT OF SCIENCE that is free to address SCIENCE and to develop the advancement of SCIENCE. (Yes, for the sake of humanity; SCIENCE FIRST.)

      “Global Warming!-IS- Human/ Industrial Waste!”

Sorry, not so, Lawrence. Please read my post “Global Warming or Global Cooling? What is Coming?” It’s listed on the right, under “Related Stories.” There is simply too much evidence that global warming and cooling cycles operate independent of any human effect. Among other things, we’ve been in a global warming cycle for some 50,000 years – that is, since the turning point in the middle of the last ice age, when the climate started warming, which produced the end of the ice age about 20,000 years ago. We continue to be in a warming cycle, which is expected to continue another 10,000-30,000 years. However, we are also to expect intermittent cooling cycles, determined by sunspot activity. The next 50 years are likely going to be cooler than the last 100. But then the sun spot activity will kick up again, and we’ll get warmer again.

Meanwhile, prepare for cold temps. And stop those idiot legislators from curbing the use of heating fuels. If you can’t heat with wood, oil or nuclear power, you are going to be VERY cold, my friend.

Also, increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide is linked to the average global temperature, not to human activity. As the global temperature increases, the ability of the earth to capture and store the gas decreases, which leads to increased atmospheric CO2 (this is covered in more detail in my post).

However, the increase in atmospheric CO2 actually helps set up future cooling. That’s because carbon dioxide both traps heat and is lighter than other elements in the atmosphere. So it rises to the upper atmosphere and discharges heat back into space – effectively acting like a heat exchanger to cool ground-level temperatures. That means that increased CO2 during warming cycles is both natural and good.

By exchanging heat at greater rates as the earth warms, CO2 helps start a cooling cycle, which will eventually lead to more decreased atmospheric CO2 as it is better captured by land and ocean vegetation (which happens at cooler temperatures), slowly and gradually undercutting the growing cooling trend and setting up for the next warming cycle.

All of this is to say: the system if far more complex than climate politics recognizes. We could either burn all carbon-bearing substances on earth at once, or altogether stop burning any carbon-bearing substances and have a virtually-undetectable influence on the temperature of the earth and its atmosphere. And in any event, we would have absolutely no effect on the longer term solar and orbital cycles that actually govern temperature and climate patterns. (For more on orbital cycles, see my post.)

I also have to say: I think the notion that human beings can make a determination about what moment in the earth’s time and change pattern is THE perfect moment, that has to be sustained indefinitely, is both stupid and highly egotistical. We simply CANNOT stop climate change any more than we can stop time itself, or stop the orbital patterns and wobble shift of the earth. These cosmic behaviors influence climate changes, and will overrule any and all human behavior.

When the ice age ended between 20,000 and 10,000 years ago, human beings made the adaptation. Many animals did not; they died out and new animals arose to take their place. So, too, with vegetation. That’s going to happen again. And again. The earth’s seas will rise and fall; the snow pack will grow and shrink and grow again; Greenland will again become green, and then become buried again in deep snowpack. Hurricanes will have stronger and weaker seasons. The ocean currents will warm and cool, raising and lowering the northern hemisphere’s mean ground-level temperature. It will sometimes be harder to grow enough crops in North America and northern Europe, and sometimes be easier.

We cannot stop, freeze, or change any of that.

That’s not to turn a blind eye on pollution, however. I do think human waste is a matter of concern. However, in geological time terms, it is a local and brief concern. We CAN pollute our local environments for short periods of time (even a million years is “short” when seen from the perspective of geologic time). And I think we can pollute sufficiently to harm or even kill ourselves. So let’s get a whole lot better about our pollution management. But let’s not pretend our pollution will change the earth’s climate path in any appreciable degree. We are but a biting mosquito on the tough hide of a cosmic-sized elephant.
